Background:
Sylvia started her career as an environmental engineering consultant in the US, before moving to London in 2001 to obtain an MBA degree. She then worked as a business consultant in France (for companies such as Electrolux and Rhodia), and saw a gap in the market for English mother tongue translators with a firm understanding of the latest management and financial concepts – the very things she learned in business school. Therefore, drawing from her knowledge of corporate finance, accounting, and financial markets, she started a successful freelance translation business in 2004. In 2010 she joined forces with two business partners, Sandra Fratelli and Sara Freitas-Maltaverne, to found SFM Traduction SARL.
Sylvia belongs to the following professional organizations:
- UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting
- La Société française des traducteurs (trade union for professional translators in France)
- Le Club des Entrepreneurs du 9ème arrondissement de Paris (entrepreneurs club for the 9th arrondissement of Paris)
